POSITION TITLE: Custodian

POSITION UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF: Lead Custodian

PAY RATE:  $DOE

 POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Custodian is responsible cleaning and disinfecting various areas of the Yakutat Community Health Center (YCHC) in accordance with YCHC procedures and universal precautions protocol. Weekly hours may vary as the workload and schedules are refined to accommodate moving into a larger facility.  Extra hours may be required on weekends if the emergency room has been used or to deep clean areas that need attention.

The Custodian performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain all patient areas, offices, corridors, stairwells, elevators, furniture, public and other assigned areas of the health clinic in a clean, sanitary and safe condition, in accordance with all operating procedures, infection control and safety policies.

This position requires compliance with Health Center’s compliance standards, including its Standards of Conduct, OSHA Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

1. Must attend in person training by YCHC Compliance Officer and verify that they adhere to YCHC cleaning policies and procedures.
2. Performs custodial duties following a Check Off list. The list must be strictly adhered to for quality control purposes.
3. Performs minor maintenance duties as assigned.
4. Cleans and sanitizes all the medical and dental work and patient care areas daily to include exam rooms, laboratory, x-ray, and visitor areas.
5. Completes daily housekeeping duties of all building departments which include vacuuming, dusting, laundry, windows, sweeping, mopping, daily sanitizing of high touch surfaces and
6. proper handling of all garbage waste. Assist in keeping walkways and exits free of debris and obstructions.
7. Replenish cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance supplies as needed.
8. Properly handle and store all hazardous waste.
9. Assist in maintaining an updated listing on file of Material Safety Data (MSDS) information for all applicable clinic departments.
10. Assists with incoming and outgoing deliveries as needed.
11. Utilize a daily check off system for monitoring daily routine and non-routine housekeeping tasks.
12. Assist in emergency preparedness and maintaining building security.
13. Wears appropriate personal protective equipment as per training, signage and product labels. Adheres to safety regulations as per departmental training.
14. Performs other work-related duties as requested/directed.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Housekeeping/Custodial experience required.  Preferred experience in a health care work environment.
  2. Organizational, planning and reading skills required.
  3. Position requires walking, bending, lifting and carrying up to fifty pounds.
  4. Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
  5. Must be willing to attend required training and staff meetings.
